"The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows." -- Sydney J. Harris
I completed my undergraduate studies at Rutgers University and received a Master's degree in Elementary Education from Teachers College at Columbia University. In addition to my Highly Qualified Teacher status in language arts and in math, I also obtained a NJ Supervisor Certification. Furthermore, I was the 2014-2015 Governor's Teacher of the Year. I began my teaching career 12 years ago as a sixth grade teacher in Fort Lee School Two. I have also taught fourth grade, and currently I am a third grade teacher.
I believe that all children can learn. I also believe that my job as an educator is to facilitate student learning by maximizing the strengths and supporting the needs of the learners. I strive to provide for my students learning experiences that promote in them a deeper understanding of the content, of who they are, and of the world. I foster a learning community in which students are encouraged to think, to collaborate, and to be engaged in their learning process. Furthermore, I try to nurture in my students their love of learning. Students learn best when they are motivated and when the content is engaging. I incorporate in my classroom innovative pedagogy, technology, and methods in order to make learning interesting and to ensure the success of my students. Through ongoing professional learning, I continue to reflect on my teaching practices, for I believe that a teacher who is a learner will motivate her students to share the same teachable heart and to become lifelong learners.
